报告人简介:

Albert Fert教授为法国科学院院士、2007年诺贝尔物理学奖获得者,是当今凝聚态物理和自旋电子学领域的著名专家和学者。Fert教授是巨磁电阻效应(Giant magnetoresistance, GMR)的发现者之一。GMR效应直接推动了高密度存储硬盘(HDD)技术的飞速发展,创造了从基础科学发现到大规模产业化的一个成功应用典范。Fert教授1962年毕业于法国巴黎高等师范学院,1963年在巴黎大学进行博士工作研究,1970年在法国巴黎第十一大学获得博士学位。1962-1964年在法国格勒诺布尔大学担任助教。1965-1976年在法国巴黎第十一大学担任助理教授。1976年至今担任法国巴黎第十一大学教授。1995年至今担任国家科学研究中心-Thales集团联合物理小组科学主管。从事科学研究至今,Albert Fert教授在Nature,Science和Phys. Rev. Lett.等重要国际SCI学术杂志发表论文超过350篇,总被引次数超过17,000次。

Abstract:

Spintronics is a new field of research exploiting the influence of the electron spin on the electrical conduction. It is mainly known example as the giant magnetoresistance (GMR). But the research on spintronics has also revealed many other interesting effects and is now developing along promising novel directions. In a spin transfer experiment on manipulates the magnetization on orientation of a magnet without applying any magnetic field but by a transfusion of spin angular momentum from a spin-polarized current. This can be used, for example, to revere the magnetization and has been used in the next generation of magnetic memories called STT-RAM. STT-RAM does not need any electrical power to maintain the memory alive.This will probably lead to a significant reduction of the energy consumption by the computers as servers. In another regime the spin transfer can be used to generate oscillation in the radio wave frequency range. The spin transfer oscillators (STO) are promising of applications in telecommunications. The research in spintronics extends today in many promising directions. Spintronics with semiconductors aims at combining the potential of conventional semiconductors with the potential of spintronics. Spintronics with grapheme, carbon nanotubes or organic molecules has revealed the advantage of carbon-based materials on metals and semiconductors in term of long spin life time and long spin diffusion length. Emerging directions include also single electron spintronics, one of the way to quantum computing, and neuromorphic spintronics in the direction of bio-inspired computers.
